The eyes of the fly / zapper, 2009

An experiment from 2009.
A simulation of the fly’s eyes and how it might look to look through them as it flies around a Bug zapper.
In a way a continuation of an idea from the work “Buzz” from 2006 but this was just a little too thin.

3d and Russian constructivism

Here is my first attempt with a 3d image.
The picture was taken of a previous project :http://jesper-carlsen.com/projects/2011_3D_cube.html
Inspired both of Russian constructivism and spacial representation used as visual-stimuli in neurological studies, I think my use of 3D was inevitable. more to come…

Turn-tabel, morden times and work

Preceding animations to the work “Arbejd” 2011. A Custom made computer animation, for the Factory of Art and Design, Copenhagen ,DK. (a BYOB event).
inspired by a scene in Charlie Chaplin: Modern Times, I thought it would be nice to bring some machines back in an old factory which is now only used for cultur activities.

Walking House

A 3D animation of a house that is walking, an experiment from 2008.An attempt to make it to look natural for a house/greenhouse to move itself. a simple idea deriving from this (mobil/sustainable/green architecture thing…)

Gallery Decent

Created as a end lessloop, 3D animation in 2007.
I remember this computer game as being very disorienting with its freedom to move in all directions without gravity. That was probably also why it didn’t become a huge success. But I like this idea of free space connected here in a loop without an obvious up or down.

Aquarium

Aquarium fish from Denmark’s Aquarium in Copenhagen. Fortunately there are still old-fashioned aquariums left. I recorded the films a few years ago, still do not know quite what they can be used for but I think they look fantastic, like something from a James Bond movie.

Contemporary Petrol Station, Uganda

I visit this place in 2006, and I thought It seemed to resembles something from an art exhibition.
I suppose that this idea of having space for each object is apparently reserved for contemporary art exhibitions (at least where I come from), it seemed at least as a very exotic petrol station.

alternative version of Simulating Gravity from 2007

20 second clip from “2001: A Space Odyssey” Directed by Stanley Kubrick 1968

This is an alternative version of the project Simulating Gravity from 2007.The first video was made as a kind of race between two people in a continues loop. Whereas this freezes into a static image.
I think this version is a good fit for the internet and the first(Simulating Gravity 2007) is bedere for art-exhibitions.
What I found interesting about it was trying to map the movement. a kind of reverse engineering to restore a space (the scenography). It is a manually trace done in AfterEffects to have a better understanding of how the camera movement was carried out and a hint about how the set actually worked.

Russian Constructivism

Here’s something I’m working on currently. these clip will probably end up as a types of pictures. but I actually really like this kind of photos to because they remind me of Russian Constructivism(Aleksandr Rodchenko / László Moholy-Nagy).
The Elements that i used is from visual test and especially tests used in neuroscience. I’m quite fascinated with the idea to look at the brain via MRI Scanners while the subject are presented visual stimuli. It seems as if the context is often completely forgotten or unwanted to get an unambiguous result. you do not want people who thinks of the test as a phenomenon or of their own being in this world during test. So I see among other things my project as a form of pollution of these elements with subjectivity and context (art context)

  • My main priority on this blog is to create some content and show som of the mistakes or non-completed projects, its something that I would like to see from other artists as well because I think it may show something interesting
